Btw...For those who may be curious...This was written as a take on what a friendly message from an extra-terrestrial intelligence might be if decoded...And human reflection on what such an experience might be like...The friendly and rather lonely alien message...Empty is my world...without you...

Back on-line after a long outage due to the ass kickin' thunderstorm that just passed through this area...Very heavy rains...and very heavy winds were the major features of this storm...There are power outages all over town...Mine was out for about 5 seconds...and then came right back up...Whew!...What a rush!..lil pieces of tree were blowing through my yard like tumbleweeds...

Beware kendokamel ...this one looks like it's headed your way.

Btw...note for happytootum ...The temp went from 88 to 64 within 15 minutes!


A moderate size tree limb was blown down from a big tree in my yard...no damage...it just went down in the grass...Next lot over to the west a BIG tree limb fell where my former neighbor's house used to stand...It would have wrecked his back porch...if the house hadn't been torn down 5 years ago...

Winds must have been well in excess of 60 mph to bring that big one down.

There seems to be a lot of controversy surrounding the www.mapthefallen.org/ map of  the fallen soldiers of the conflict in Iraq and Afghanistan...Some seem to think showing a map which represents each dead soldier by a marker placed at his hometown is political...and unpatriotic...

Here's what i posted in a comment box about it.

This map is especially relevant today because it represents the casualties of a conflict that is in progress...It is not the political statement some have made it out to be...We should not hide our honored dead of this war or the dead of any other...The days when we were not to speak of such things is over...This battle is real...It's ongoing...and it's casualties should not be hidden to placate those who would hide the cost of war for some empty political reason.

And i just did a live update...No weather warnings...but the very heavy rain is more than some of the storm drains can handle...So i saw some serious water on the streets on the way to the station...As i was driving in...The fire trucks were heading out...Possibly a fire...about 2 blocks over from my place...Likely the big boom i heard was a direct hit on something nearby.

That was a close one!...A loud clap of thunder made me jump in my seat...I've unplugged the laptop and am on battery until the worst of it is over.

I'm on the Weather Watch tonight...The NWS has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for a wide swath of central and southern Illinois until 2am...I've already been down to the station to record weather updates...and i may have to go back later if the storms do come...Right now RADAR is clear for the local area...All i can do is wait.
